Police: Man sleeping on parkway charged with DWI, drug possession

A Hempstead man was arrested early Wednesday after a state trooper found him asleep at the wheel of his car, which was stopped in the right hand travel lane of the Southern State Parkway -- and an investigation determined the man was drunk -- police said.
A search of the vehicle, a white BMW X5, also found 116 grams of marijuana, police said.
Lamont Briggs, 38, whose address was unavailable, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, fourth-degree criminal possession of marijuana, and was issued a citation for being stopped or parked on a highway.
Arraignment details were not immediately available.
Police said troopers found Briggs in the BMW near Exit 19, Peninsula Boulevard, in Rockville Centre, at 3:04 a.m.
