Nassau officials offer condolences to Kabul suicide bombing victims

Nassau County Executive Laura Curran and Nassau Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder offered their condolences in a news release Saturday to the victims of a suicide bombing in Kabul, Afghanistan, that killed at least 95 people and wounded another 158.

While there are no known imminent threats to Nassau County, officials said they are working closely with federal, state and local partners to monitor the situation.

The Taliban took responsibility for the bombing Saturday, when the attacker drove an ambulance through one security checkpoint in central Kabul and detonated the explosives at a second, The Associated Press reported.

“Although there are no known imminent threats to Nassau County, the Police Department Intelligence Division is working closely with federal, state and local partners to monitor the situation,” the statement said.

The explosion followed another deadly attack in the Afghan capital the week before in which Taliban fighters killed 22 people at a hotel, according to The Associated Press.
