Next time the four armed men who tried to rob a Lawrence deli Thursday morning think about a criminal endeavor, they might consider better planning.

Fourth Squad detectives said four men with handguns went into the Doughty Deli at 50 Doughty Blvd., at about 1:30 a.m., intending to rob the cashier.

But Nassau County police said the men fled without getting any money after they found the cashier was behind a counter protected by bulletproof glass.

Police said all four men were between the ages of 18 and 25 and wore hooded sweatshirts.

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-8477. All callers will remain anonymous.
