Legis. Abrahams fundraises for McCarthy seat

Fundraising has begun for the race to succeed Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-Mineola).

Legislative Minority Leader Kevan Abrahams (D-Freeport) will hold a fundraiser to benefit his Congressional Exploratory Committee Jan. 29 at Havanas Private Cigar Club at the Carltun restaurant in Eisenhower Park. Tickets are $1,000 each, while event chairs pay $2,600 for an evening of "cocktails and conversations."

Other Democrats courting support include Nassau DA Kathleen Rice, Legis. David Denenberg of Merrick and Malverne Mayor Patricia Norris-McDonald. Potential GOP candidates include Hempstead Supervisor Kate Murray and Nassau Legis. Francis X. Becker Jr. of Lynbrook. Attorney Frank Scaturro has declared his candidacy. -- Robert Brodsky
