A Thanksgiving morning house fire in Levittown started in a camper then spread to the home, injuring the owner when he tried to put it out, the Nassau police arson squad said.

The Sheep Lane fire appeared to be accidental, authorities said, though a fire marshal and arson detectives were still looking into the cause.

The homeowner, 58, had minor burns to his hands, knees and face in the 7:35 a.m. fire that brought 11 trucks and about 100 firefighters to the scene. He was treated at a hospital and released.

The fire also damaged another home.

Responding were the Levittown, Wantagh, North Bellmore and East Meadow departments. Levittown Chief Frank Guidice headed the effort.

Nassau arson detectives and Levittown fire officials could not be reached for comment Thursday night.
