A Levittown woman who crashed into two parked vehicles Friday night was charged under Leandra's Law with driving while intoxicated with her 4-year-old daughter in the car, Nassau County police said.

Maria Aman, 27, of 3166 Euston Lane was driving a 2002 Toyota in Hempstead at 7:18 p.m. when she hit two parked cars in front of 250 Fulton Ave., police said.

When officers arrived they noticed Aman was "unsteady on her feet, had slurred speech and a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage," police said in a release.

The girl suffered abdomen trauma and was transported to Winthrop-University Hospital in Mineola.

Aman refused a breath test and is charged with endangering the welfare of a child, aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child under 15, refusal to take a breath test and criminal contempt, police said. She is scheduled to be arraigned Saturday in First District Court in Hempstead.

Under Leandra's Law, passed in November, the endangerment charge is a felony. The law was passed after the death of Leandra Rosado, 11, who was killed in an alleged DWI accident after the minivan in which she was a passenger crashed on the West Side Highway in Manhattan.
