Levy Robinson sentenced to 55 years for Valley Stream home invasion, DA says
A Queens man convicted in a 2012 Valley Stream home invasion in which six members of a family -- including four children -- were tied up at gunpoint was sentenced Tuesday to 55 years in prison, prosecutors said.
Nassau County Court Judge David Sullivan also ordered Levy Robinson, 46, of Jamaica, to serve five years of post-release supervision.
A jury in March found Robinson guilty of robbery, burglary, assault and unlawful imprisonment counts. He also was convicted of endangering the welfare of a child and resisting arrest.
Prosecutors said Robinson and Timothy Capers, 36, of Jamaica, conspired with Varinder Singh, 25, of North Valley Stream, a relative of the victims, to rob the home on Jan. 16, 2012.
Nassau police Officer Juan Giron responded to the scene after a family member called 911, and barged into the home, releasing the family. During an ensuing firefight with suspects, Capers shot himself and died. Robinson was arrested.
Singh, who an investigation revealed plotted the crime, never entered the home. He was convicted of robbery and burglary in July and is serving a 7-year sentence.
Giron and fellow officers George C. Pribyl and Timothy Siar were awarded medals of valor for their actions following the home invasion. Giron has since been promoted to detective.
Robinson's attorney, William Shanahan of Mineola, has said his client played a small role in the crime.
