HEMPSTEAD/Town clerk's harassment case adjourned

Hempstead Town Clerk Mark Bonilla's harassment case was adjourned until March 11 in District Court in Hempstead Tuesday.

Bonilla was charged with three misdemeanors on Sept. 21. The charges stem from allegations he tried to obtain "intimate and personal photographs" of a female subordinate who had accused him of sexual harassment, according to a criminal complaint.

He faced calls for his resignation in the wake of the charges last year but said he will not step down. He has pleaded not guilty.

Bonilla supervises about 125 employees and is paid $129,500 annually. He is charged with two counts of official misconduct, coercion and attempted petty larceny.

NEW CASSEL/2nd suspect arrested in laundry robbery

Police have arrested a second teen who detectives said was involved in a robbery at a laundry service on Grant Street in New Cassel in late January.

Carlos Medrano, 17, of 176 Bond St., was located by Nassau County police patrol officers on Monday -- and was charged with first-degree robbery and second-degree assault for his role in the robbery at the Laundry Giant Dry Cleaners on Jan. 27, police said.

An alleged accomplice, identified by police as Howard Aviles, 17, of 176 Grant St., was arrested on Grant Street after the crime. He also was charged with first-degree robbery and second-degree assault and was arraigned the following day in First District Court in Hempstead.

Police said the pair entered the laundry service at 6:20 a.m. on Jan. 27 and robbed the 49-year-old attendant of cash.

The laundry service was robbed in an unrelated crime last October. Three teens were arrested in that robbery.

Medrano was scheduled for arraignment Tuesday in First District Court, police said.

ROOSEVELT/Couple sought in man's weekend robbery, assault

Two men are under arrest, and a man and woman are still being sought, in connection with the weekend robbery of a man in Roosevelt.

Nassau County police said the victim, identified only as a 29-year-old man, was discovered unconscious in his room at 12:10 a.m. Saturday and that an investigation revealed he had been punched, kicked and then struck in the head with a bottle during a dispute with the foursome before being robbed.

Arrested Monday were Matthew Matteo, 20, of 110 Manhattan Ave., Roosevelt, and Vincent Meyers, 22, of 66 Grand Ave., Freeport. Both face charges of first-degree and second-degree robbery.

Meyers also was arrested on a charge of criminal possession of stolen property and fourth-degree criminal mischief.

Police said the four attackers were in the victim's room when "an argument ensued." The foursome then began to punch and kick the victim, police said, before Meyers struck the victim with a bottle, causing what police called "a severe head laceration."

Meyers and Matteo were arrested Monday at Matteo's residence and police said the victim's identification and a debit card were found in Meyers' possession at that time.

Police also said that Meyers broke a desk and a door while in custody at the police station. He was taken to a hospital for "evaluation."

Matteo faced arraignment Tuesday in First District Court in Hempstead. Meyers faces arraignment as soon as practicable, police said.
