Liberal chief, GOP appointee, backs Haber
From the strange bedfellows department, the state Liberal Party, chaired by Jack Olchin of Nassau County, last week endorsed Democrat Adam Haber for county executive.
Olchin, 90, was appointed in 2010 by Republican County Executive Edward Mangano to a $15,000-a-year part-time post on the county's Assessment Review Commission. He's held positions under both GOP and Democratic administrations, including as a deputy county attorney. Of his being a Haber backer and a Mangano appointee, Olchin said: "One thing has nothing to do with another."
Haber campaign manager Justin Myers hailed Olchin as having spent his "career fighting to protect a woman's right to choose and expanding civil rights for all."-- Robert Brodsky
