LIE eastbound reopens in western Nassau after fuel spill, DOT says
A fuel spill that snarled the eastbound Long Island Expressway, closing all lanes near the Queens-Nassau County border during the Thursday morning rush, was cleared by about 9 a.m., according to the state Department of Transportation.
The DOT’s informny.com website reported the lanes had been closed after an incident involving a tractor trailer at about 6 a.m.
That incident caused a spill between Exit 32, Little Neck Parkway, and Exit 33, Lakeville Road in Lake Success. Details were not immediately available, but traffic camera footage showed a wall-to-wall traffic snarl stretching from Queens, east across the Cross Island Parkway and into Nassau.
Residual traffic remained heavy after the road was reopened.
