LIE westbound lanes reopen after Jericho crash, officials say

Three of four westbound lanes of the Long Island Expressway were closed for about an hour Tuesday morning in Jericho after a masonry truck overturned near Exit 42 and spilled debris onto the roadway, Nassau County police said.

Police said there were no injuries.

The accident happened shortly before 7:30 a.m. when the driver of the truck, who was alone in the vehicle, “blew a tire and flipped over,” a police spokeswoman said.

But the spokeswoman added, “The driver was able to get out” and was not injured.

Police did not name the driver or the masonry company, but a photograph from the scene showed the truck has JEL Home Improvements Inc. written on its side along with phone numbers for the company in Suffolk and Nassau counties. According to the information on the truck, the company does extensions, decks, porticos, roofing, siding, windows and doors.

The police spokeswoman said the debris that spilled was from masonry work.

Only the high-occupancy vehicle lane was open as of 8:30 a.m. between Exits 42 and 41, according to the state Department of Transportation website. All lanes were reopened as of 9:22 a.m., according to the website.
