A five-vehicle accident left three people injured and closed three lanes of the westbound Long Island Expressway for about an hour Friday morning in Locust Grove, police said.

The extent of the injuries was not immediately clear.

The state Department of Transportation reported that the crash was at 6:53 a.m. at Exit 42, which is the connector to the Northern State Parkway. Only one lane remained open, Nassau County police said.

The road was reopened just before 8 a.m., police said.
