LIE reopens after crash, car fire

A two-car accident and ensuing car fire closed the westbound Long Island Expressway for about an hour Thursday morning at Exit 41, Route 106-Route 107, in Hicksville, Nassau County police said. The eastbound HOV lane also was closed at Exit 41.
The accident was at 8 a.m., police said. The road was reopened at 9 a.m.
Police said there were injuries reported in that crash. However, the severity of those injuries and the number of injured were not immediately known, police said.
There was another accident on the south service road near Jericho Turnpike just before the LIE was reopened, police said.
Police said that accident was reported at 8:50 a.m., but said there were no serious injuries. Details of the crash were not immediately available.
