A Massapequa woman waiting for an eastbound Long Island Rail Road train Thursday afternoon fell from the platform just as the train was pulling into the Massapequa Park station, a spokesman for the commuter service said.

Lauri Pohl, 55, who broke her leg in the fall, remained at Nassau University Medical Center last night, said Salvatore Arena, a spokesman for the LIRR.

The engineer saw Pohl fall onto the tracks, Arena said, but he was unable to stop the train in time.

However, Pohl quickly found safety under the train's platform, Arena said.

"When the train passed her location, she was not hit by the train," he said.

Pohl was waiting for the train that left Penn Station at 12:06 p.m. and was due to arrive in Massapequa Park at 1:06 p.m., Arena said.
