Long Island Rail Road trains should be running without complications, said a Long Island railroad spokesman, and it should be a normal commute Monday.

A severe storm Thursday night that hit right at the evening rush made a mess of train travel, causing massive delays on the LIRR trains out of Penn Station. Commuters waited up to five hours to get the trains moving.

The Port Washington branch, which does not go through Jamaica, also took a heavy hit: Trains were out of commission through Thursdaynight and a good portion of Friday's morning-rush period.

LIRR officials said Friday that there were 14 trees blocking tracks between Flushing and Port Washington, and eight more down around Woodside. Tree limbs blocked trains' paths in 15 other locations.

The effects were still felt Friday morning, with unrelated switch problems at Hicksville station that slowed trains running east from Port Jefferson.
