A person was struck and killed by a Long Island Rail Road train in Syosset Monday night, a LIRR spokesman said.

The body of the person was discovered about 200 feet east of the Robbins Lane crossing some time after 11 p.m., according to Sal Arena, the railroad spokesman.

Port Jefferson branch service was temporarily suspended between Hicksville and Huntington in both directions, Arena said.

The train that hit the person was the westbound 10:56 p.m. train from Huntington that was due into Penn Station at 12:01 a.m.

No additional information was immediately available from authorities.
