LIRR restores Atlantic Terminal service
The Long Island Rail Road has restored service into and out of Atlantic Terminal after a brief suspension of service due to signal problems Friday morning, railroad officials said.
The railroad said repair crews had addressed the signal problems in Brooklyn.
The cause of the problem was not immediately detailed.
The issue caused delays and cancellations on the Hempstead, West Hempstead, Long Beach, Ronkonkoma, Montauk and Far Rockaway branches of the railroad early Friday.
The railroad first restored limited service, saying it would make announcements advising riders of the status of trains and noting that Brooklyn trains could still be canceled at Jamaica. Officials said that New York City Transit cross-honored fares between Jamaica and Atlantic Terminal and between Atlantic Terminal and Penn Station during the incident, which led to the cancellation of at least three trains.
The 5:01 a.m. train from Hempstead, scheduled to arrive at Atlantic Terminal at 5:51 a.m., was canceled, as was the 5:29 a.m. train from Atlantic Terminal to Long Beach, scheduled to arrive at 6:22 a.m., and the 5:52 a.m. train from Atlantic Terminal, scheduled to arrive in West Hempstead at 6:38 a.m.
The canceled Long Beach train instead originated at Jamaica -- 45 minutes late, officials said. The 5:22 a.m. train from Far Rockaway to Atlantic Terminal was held at Jamaica, but the 6:38 a.m. train from Atlantic Terminal to Far Rockaway, scheduled to arrive at 7:34 a.m., reportedly operated on time. Officials later said there were minor delays on the Long Beach line because of late-arriving equipment -- an issue caused by the earlier problem.
