A commuter walks to get on a train at Jamaica Station. Of the 200,000 LIRR riders who pass through the station each day, most only transfer to other trains at the station. A switch-replacement task near Huntington on Saturday means a reduction of eastbound and westbound train service on the Port Jefferson branch, the Long Island Rail Road said.

Train schedules Saturday will be altered between 2:30 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. with some customers required to transfer at Hicksville to complete their trips, according to a Thursday news release from the commuter service.

Here are the scheduled service changes on the Huntington / Port Jefferson line:

Huntington, Syosset, Cold Spring Harbor: Trains will stop at these stations once every hour -- reduced from every half-hour.

Some eastbound customers originating at New Hyde Park and Merillon Avenue and destined for Syosset through Port Jefferson will transfer at Hicksville to continue travel to points east.

Some westbound customers originating at stations Port Jefferson through Syosset, and destined for Westbury and Merillon Avenue, will transfer at Hicksville to continue to their trip.

Customers can call 511, the New York State Travel Information Line (say: Long Island Rail Road) for more information, or visit mta.info/lirr/. Hearing-impaired customers can use their preferred relay service provider for the free 711 relay to reach LIRR at 511.
