Person hit, killed by train in Seaford; evening rush service affected

A westbound train hit and killed an unauthorized person on the tracks at the Seaford station Tuesday, leading to canceled trains and delays during the evening commute, the Long Island Rail Road said.

The victim, a male, was struck at 4:10 p.m. by the train that left Babylon at 3:42 p.m. and was due at Penn Station at 4:55 p.m., said Meredith Daniels, a spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

MTA police were investigating it as a possible suicide.

As of 5 p.m., five trains on three branches have been canceled and about a dozen others delayed, the LIRR website said. Passengers on the canceled trains were being accommodated by other trains, MTA officials said.

Trains were operating on or close to schedule by 7:30 p.m., the LIRR said.
