LIRR service on Long Beach branch restored after car on tracks
Service on the Long Beach branch of the Long Island Rail Road was restored at 6:21 a.m. Monday after being suspended in both directions earlier because a car was on the tracks in East Rockaway, officials said.
The service suspension, which was between Long Beach and Lynbrook, lasted about an hour. A railroad spokeswoman said one train was canceled as a result.
The railroad said the disabled car was on the tracks at the Ocean Avenue crossing in East Rockaway, but additional details were not immediately available. The vehicle damaged the third rail, which supplies electrical power to trains, and it needed to be repaired, the railroad said.
The incident was causing residual delays of about 20 minutes to 25 minutes.
