Long Beach man jumps from window to flee fire
A Long Beach man had to jump out his window Saturday after he left an oil-filled frying pan on his apartment stove, fell asleep, then awoke to a fire, Nassau County police said.
The man, whose name wasn't released, jumped to safety out of his second-story window on West Market Street. He was later hospitalized in stable condition with second-degree burns to his back and abrasions to his face and head caused by broken glass, police said.
The fire started at about 6:20 p.m. and needed some 55 firefighters to extinguish, a police spokeswoman said.
