Nassau County police have reopened a section of Long Beach Road in Oceanside that had been shut due to heavy smoke coming from a laundromat.

Police closed the half mile stretch of the main thoroughfare between Howard Place and Franklin Place shortly after 4 p.m. to clear traffic for fire equipment to respond.

Firefighters found nothing ablaze, but said an oil burner emergency caused billowing smoke to pour from the building into the street.

The road was reopened by 5:30 p.m., police said.
