MINEOLA/Carjacking suspect needs to see medic, lawyer says

The suspected carjacker accused of fleeing police and crashing the stolen vehicle into a wall of a North Merrick school Tuesday needs urgent medical attention in jail, his attorney told a judge Friday.

The suspect, Remick X. Menjivar, 18, of Freeport, was hurt when the Infiniti he was driving crashed Tuesday afternoon after being chased by Nassau County police, according to the attorney, Adrienne Flipse Hausch of Mineola.

Menjivar appears to have bruises on his face, and Flipse Hausch said he also injured his leg. At the appearance Friday in District Court in Mineola, she asked the judge to order that he can see a medic -- a request the court approved.

On Friday, neither Menjivar nor the other carjacking suspect, Edwin Flores, 20, of Hicksville, appeared in the courtroom.

Menjivar and Flores are jailed without bail and have pleaded not guilty.

Charges against Menjivar and Flores include first-degree robbery, two counts of second-degree robbery, first-degree criminal use of a firearm and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

The case is due back in court April 3.
