LIRR train kills person

on tracks near Woodside

A westbound Long Island Rail Road train killed a person on the tracks Thursday about 11:20 a.m., delaying trains heading into Penn Station, the authority said.

The sex and identity of the person, who was hit east of the Woodside station on the westbound track, were not available, LIRR spokesman Sam Zambuto said.

The train was delayed at the scene as Metropolitan Transportation Authority police investigated, Zambuto said.

Because of the accident, westbound LIRR trains skipped the Woodside, Forest Hills and Kew Gardens stations for several hours. The LIRR said normal service has resumed, according to The Associated Press.
