Five hurt in four-vehicle crash on Long Island Expressway, Nassau police say
A four-vehicle rush-hour crash on the Long Island Expressway Friday morning injured five people, including two who were airlifted to area hospitals, and temporarily closed the eastbound lanes between three exits, according to Nassau police.
The five people were hospitalized but all were expected to survive, police said.
There was no criminality involved in the crash, authorities said.
All eastbound lanes of the expressway were closed between Exits 34 and 37 from around 8:30 a.m. to about 11:25 a.m., according to police.
The crash temporarily led police to divert motorists to the service road between the exits for New Hyde Park Road in North Hills and the Willis Avenue exit for Mineola and Roslyn, police said.
