Long Island forecast: Sunny and hot

It's another sunny, hot summer day on Long Island.
The high temperature at Long Island MacArthur Airport hit 88 degrees, and it may get hotter, the National Weather Service said. The heat index reached as high as 95 degrees.
Earlier, News 12 Long Island meteorologist Matt Hammer said Monday could be a bit hazy at times, hot and humid.
"Some of those fair-weather clouds" could appear, and "there could be a scattered pop-up shower or storm" in the afternoon and also after sundown, Hammer said.
For most of the day, it will be dry, he said.
Hammer said beachgoers can expect a high ultraviolet radiation index, so have the sunscreen handy. Plus, there's a moderate risk for riptides Monday at ocean beaches, the service said.
The service also said there is an air-quality alert for Nassau and Suffolk counties from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday.
The Air Quality Index for Long Island is expected to surpass 100; index ratings higher than 100 mean levels of different air pollutants can have adverse health effects for those with respiratory issues, including asthma.
