A segment of the Loop Parkway in the Town of Hempstead will be closed during the overnight hours beginning Monday for inspection and repair work on the Long Creek drawbridge, according to the state Department of Transportation.

The 75-year-old bridge and the portion of the parkway between the Meadowbrook Parkway and Lido Boulevard will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. from Monday through Friday, the DOT said.

Motorists frequently travel the drawbridge to reach Point Lookout, Lido Beach and Long Beach.

The Long Beach Road or Atlantic Beach bridges should be used as alternate routes, DOT officials advised.

Mariners will continue to have access to Long Creek Channel while the work is done.
