A van hit and killed a pedestrian who was crossing Atlantic Avenue in Lynbrook on Saturday evening, police said.

Donald Marasak, 71, of Lynbrook, was attempting to cross Atlantic Avenue from east to west at 5:40 p.m., when a 2007 Ford van traveling south hit him, Nassau police said.

Marasak was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Police didn’t release the exact location of the incident on the two-lane highway nor the name of the van’s driver, a 48-year-old man who remained at the scene. Police administered a brake test on his vehicle, which showed the van's brakes were working, police said.

The investigation is ongoing.
