Lynbrook native appointed village’s first female prosecutor

Lynbrook resident Christine DiGregorio was recently appointed the village’s first female prosecutor.

“It is an honor to be appointed the first female prosecutor. I hope other villages will do what Lynbrook has done and appoint female prosecutors as well,” DiGregorio said.

DiGregorio fills the position left vacant by Robert Boccio after he was sworn in to the village board of trustees in December.

She said she was contacted for the job by Mayor Alan Beach, who appointed her on Feb. 22. The mayor can reappoint her annually, officials said.

“Ms. DiGregorio’s legal skills will be an asset to the community,” Beach said.

Lynbrook has a total of six prosecutors, with three working on the one day a week court is in session, officials said. The position is part-time, and DiGregorio anticipates being in court once or twice a month. DiGregorio said she will continue working at her job at the Mendes & Mount LLP law firm in Manhattan.

As a prosecutor, DiGregorio will hear cases of village code violations and vehicle traffic law. She will be paid for each court night she works, as opposed to an hourly rate, officials said.

“I’m working with the police department to combat traffic violations and tickets,” DiGregorio said.

As a lifelong Lynbrook resident, DiGregorio said receiving the appointment means a lot to her.

“I love Lynbrook. I grew up here my whole life,” DiGregorio said. “I appreciate this opportunity to keep Lynbrook safe for current residents.”

DiGregorio, 26, is a graduate of Touro Law Center in Central Islip. She will start her work as Lynbrook prosecutor by assisting other prosecutors beginning the week of March 26.
