Lynbrook will be launching a parking app that allows shoppers to pay for parking on a mobile device.
“We are at the forefront of this matter, and are working to make shopping more convenient for visitors and residents of Lynbrook,” Mayor Alan Beach said.
The PayByPhone app enables people to pay for parking without feeding a meter. It is available for any Apple, Android, BlackBerry or Windows device.
The parking fee in Lynbrook is 25 cents per half-hour, and it will not cost extra to pay with the app.
PayByPhone parking includes a timer that tells shoppers when their meter has expired, and allows them to add more time if necessary.
The village will maintain use of meters that take cash or credit cards. The app will work for parking on streets and parking fields that are currently metered.
Officials said the app should be functional in 45 days, once signs are posted and meters are integrated with the vendor’s software.
The village board voted on March 5 to sign a one-year contract with PayByPhone that can be renewed. Implementing the app will be at no cost to the village.
