A Lynbrook woman was killed and two other people injured Monday afternoon when the SUV driven by her husband collided with a sedan on Hempstead Turnpike and Clearmeadow Drive in East Meadow.

Ann Lee, 85, was pronounced dead at Nassau University Medical Center - about two blocks away - shortly after the 3:30 p.m. crash in front of Meadowbrook Shopping Center.

Her husband, Gerard Lee, 86, who police said was driving a 2009 Dodge SUV, and Harriet Anderson, 91, of East Meadow who drove a 2001 Hyundai Elantra, were admitted to the hospital and were listed in stable condition.

Ann Lee was ejected from her vehicle, said Nassau Police Sgt. Russell Sacks, one of the officers at the scene.

Monday, pieces of the mangled vehicles - the white sedan and tan SUV - were strewn across the road. Glass littered the street.

Donna Wittmann 52, of Wantagh, said she heard "multiple impacts," ran across the street to see if she could help and noticed Lee had been thrown from the vehicle.

"She was not moving," Wittmann said. "She was not breathing."

The cause of the crash is unclear, Sacks said.

Police said the crash occurred as Anderson's sedan, heading south, made a left turn from Clearmeadow Drive onto Hempstead Turnpike, while the Lees' SUV was traveling east on Hempstead. The sedan had front and right-side damage and the SUV was struck on its left side and front end.

There is a traffic light at the intersection, but it was not clear which vehicle had the right of way at the time. Police said they had issued no summonses in connection with the crash.

Police diverted traffic in both directions as they blocked off the scene and investigated the accident.
