Man, 82, struck, killed by SUV in Roslyn Heights, police say

An 82-year-old man died Saturday night after an SUV hit him as he crossed a street in Roslyn Heights, Nassau police said.

The man, whose identity police withheld pending notification of his family, was hit by a GMC Acadia shortly before 7:30 p.m. as he crossed Mineola Avenue westbound near Hillside Avenue.

The Acadia was traveling northbound on Mineola Avenue, police said.

The victim was transported to North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset. He was pronounced dead at 7:57 p.m., police said. No other injuries were reported, according to police, and no apparent criminality had been determined.
