Man arrested in 2009 Valley Stream robbery
Nassau County police Saturday morning arrested a Bronx man who is accused of robbing a teenager in Valley Stream in December 2009.
Jose Jimenez, 23, of Ely Avenue, was charged with second-degree robbery. Police said Jimenez was one of two suspects who approached an 18-year-old victim from behind at 2 a.m. while he was walking on Dogwood Road, striking him in the head and knocking him to the ground. Jimenez allegedly held him while a second unknown male subject took the teen's wallet, MP3 player and cellphone.
Jimenez and the unknown male subject fled the scene on foot westbound on McKeon Avenue. The victim, who was not injured, returned home and notified police.
During the investigation police determined Jimenez used a credit card belonging to the victim at the CVS store at 44 N. Central Ave. in Valley Stream.
Jimenez at the time of the robbery was active military personnel on leave. Jimenez was identified using store surveillance video, DNA evidence left at the scene of the robbery and assistance from military investigators.
Nassau County police arrested Jimenez in the Fifth Squad precinct in Elmont at 5:20 a.m. Saturday.
He is scheduled for arraignment Saturday.
