Man barricades himself in Westbury hotel room
A man barricaded himself in a hotel room in Westbury early Friday afternoon, Nassau police said, and more than nine hours later had still failed to follow directives to come out.
The Nassau police's Bureau of Special Operations, Emergency Services Unit and Crisis Negotiations Unit responded to the Pines Motel, 101 Taylor Ave. shortly before 1 p.m. when the incident was reported, police said.
Police are not sure if the man, 52, was alone in the room.
The man refused to leave the room at the direction of the hotel management and threatened to harm anyone who tried to force him to leave, police said.
The Pines Motel and part of the nearby Hilton Garden Inn were evacuated, police said.
It was unclear Friday night whether the unidentified man was armed or not, nor what precipitated the situation. No shots have been fired, police said.
