A 62-year-old man walking down an alley late Sunday night in Freeport was attacked by two assailants who attempted to rob him, police said.

Nassau County police said the victim suffered lacerations to his head and face and was taken to a hospital via police ambulance.

No money was taken.

Police said the attack occurred about 11:15 p.m. Sunday in an alleyway adjacent to 64 Commercial St.

They said the victim was walking down the alley when he was approached from behind by two assailants, who hit him in the head and face with a wooden stick. The suspects then fled on foot through a nearby parking lot, police said.

Police ask anyone with information about the attack to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
