A Valley Stream man has been arrested in the January shooting of a man in New Cassel, Nassau police said Wednesday.

Jonathan Aurelien, 22, approached the man at about 10:20 p.m. Jan. 22 and fired a semiautomatic handgun several times, hitting the victim in the left hand, police said.

Aurelien, of 132 Broadway, is expected to be arraigned Thursday on second-degree assault, second-degree criminal use of a firearm and second-degree criminal possession, police said.

The 25-year-old victim, who was not named, was shot near Juniper Lane and Maplewood Drive and driven in a private car to a local hospital, police said.
