A Plainview man whose car stalled on the Southern State Parkway Monday morning has been arrested on charges of driving while impaired by drugs, state police said.

A trooper patrolling the Southern State west to the Meadowbrook Parkway noticed a stalled black Pontiac on the road at about 10:35 a.m., police said.

After helping the driver, Matthew Picone, 29, of 535 E. Old Country Rd., move the car to the shoulder, the trooper said he could smell marijuana coming from the vehicle, according to a news release.

When Picone could not answer simple questions and failed sobriety tests, police said, he was arrested.

Picone is charged with driving while impaired by drugs, operating a vehicle with an expired inspection sticker and stopping on the parkway. He was scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead.
