The victim was not identified by police, who said they are searching for the suspect.

The incident happened at 8:15 p.m. near Babylon Turnpike and Thoma Place.

Police said the victim was approached by the suspect, who then fired a handgun at him - hitting him once in the chest, once in the leg. The gunman then stole a cell phone and cash from the victim, police said.

Police are searching for the gunman and are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential, police said.
