A man trying to cross a street in Valley Stream Monday was struck by a vehicle and killed, Nassau police said.

The victim, a 61-year-old from Bellerose, was heading to the north side of Merrick Road near Green Street when an eastbound Audi Allroad hit him about noon, police said.

The pedestrian was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Police conducted a safety check on the Audi and released it to the driver, a 75-year-old man who was not injured, police said.

Homicide detectives do not believe any criminality is involved. They did not release the victim’s name.
