A man sitting on a curb claiming he was injured suddenly jumped a teenage Good Samaritan and tried to rob him Monday in Valley Stream, Nassau County police said.

Police said the teenager was able to fend off the would-be robber and flee into a nearby firehouse.

The incident occurred at about 6:30 p.m. on Cochran Place near Spruce Lane.

Police said the teen, 19, was walking south on Cochran when he saw a man sitting on the curb. The man said he was injured and asked the teen for help.

When the teen walked over, police said, the man "suddenly grabbed him and demanded his property."

The teen was not injured, police said.

Police are searching for the suspect, who is about 20 with a thin build. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, police said.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the incident to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
