A 25-year-old man died from gunshot wounds Wednesday morning after he was found on a Hempstead street by officers responding to a 911 call for shots fired, Nassau police said.

Hempstead police were called to Morrell Street and Morton Avenue at 9:40 a.m., where they found the man with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital and was pronounced dead at 10:17 a.m. by hospital staff, police said.

The man's identity has not been released pending notification of his family, police said Wednesday night.

A police spokeswoman said there are no suspects at this time, and that they hope any possible witnesses will come forward. The Homicide Squad is investigating, and detectives ask anyone with information about the shooting to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
