A 42-year-old man found shot inside an auto body repair shop in Freeport Wednesday night died a short time later at a local hospital, police said.

Nassau County police have not released the identity of the victim.

A 911 call to the Freeport police department reporting the shooting inside Aimes Collision on Bennington Avenue was received at 9:41 p.m., police said. Arriving officers found the man with gunshot wounds to the chest and police said he was transported to a hospital, where he died at 10:18 p.m.

It was not immediately clear if the man worked at the shop and it was not clear how many times he had been shot. Police said details were not immediately available, citing the continuing investigation.

The shop is located on a short side street between Sunrise Highway and the Long Island Rail Road tracks just west of the Meadowbrook Parkway.
