A teen walking along a street in Valley Stream Monday night was robbed by a man who stole a chain, ripping it from her neck, police said.

The robbery was on Fir Street at 11:10 p.m., Nassau County police said.

Police said the man, who was described as about 5-foot-8 and wearing a black sleeveless shirt and black pants, followed the 18-year-old as she walked along Clearstream Avenue, waited until she turned onto Fir, then ripped the silver chain from her neck.

The suspect fled east on Fir and north on Clearstream, police said. Police said the girl was not injured.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the incident to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
