Man held without bail in fatal Elmont shooting

A Far Rockaway man was held without bail Tuesday after, police said, he shot an Elmont man to death Monday, and critically injured a woman, whom he drove to the hospital before leaving, police said.
Wilfred Labossiere, 31, of Beach 19th St., pleaded not guilty in Hempstead District Court to charges of second-degree murder, first-degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon Tuesday, Nassau police said. He was remanded by Judge Eric Bjorneby, and is due back in court Friday, prosecutors said.
Labossiere's lawyer, Edward Schulman of Jamaica, Queens, declined to comment.
Police said Labossiere shot and killed Christopher Mullings, 29, of Roosevelt, and critically wounded the 51-year-old grandmother of Labossiere's 3-year-old son. Her name was not released by police.
Labossiere had dropped off his son at the grandmother's home on Oakley Avenue early Monday morning, and returned after a telephone argument about visitation, police said. The argument continued outside the home, with Labossiere, the grandmother, and Mullings, a relative.
A 19-year-old neighbor, who asked not to be identified, said he had been asleep when he was awakened first by a loud argument outside and later by the sound of gunshots.
"I knew they were gunshots," he said. "They came real fast. I sprung out of bed."
The argument between Labossiere and Mullings became physical, police said. Labossiere pulled out a gun and fired several times, striking Mullings and the grandmother, police said.
From his upstairs bedroom window, the neighbor said, he saw the wounded man on the front lawn and the woman on the sidewalk. "I heard her say, 'Help, I'm shot,' or something like that," the neighbor said.
Police said Labossiere helped the woman into the car and took her to a hospital. In the hospital's ambulance bay, Labossiere handed the woman over to hospital personnel and left. The woman was in critical but stable condition Tuesday morning, police said.
Fourth Precinct officers saw Labossiere's car in Far Rockaway, and he was arrested without incident, police said.
