Man hospitalized after gunshots fired in Freeport
A man fired "several gunshots" into a double-parked car in Freeport early Tuesday evening, striking and wounding a rear-seat passenger, police said.
The incident occurred at 6:36 p.m. Tuesday on Church Street near Merrick Road, Nassau County Police said. The passenger, who was not identified, was struck by a bullet in the lower back and was transported to a local hospital and is in stable condition, police said. It is not known how many people were in the car -- or how many shots were fired.
Police have not detailed a motive for the shooting and have not said if the shooter and the passengers inside the car knew each other.
