Man injured in crash in Plainview, Nassau police say
One man was hospitalized with undisclosed injuries after a crash involving a U.S. Postal Service tractor trailer and a sport utility vehicle that closed Old Country Road in Plainview for more than an hour Wednesday morning, police said.
It was not immediately clear if the postal truck driver was injured — or if there were passengers in the SUV.
The crash occurred on eastbound Old Country Road at Carol Place at 4:22 a.m., Nassau County police said.
The area is adjacent to the Morton Village shopping center, just east of the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway.
The driver’s side front end of the SUV was crushed from the crash. It was not immediately clear if speed was a factor in the crash, but a witness said the truck “went over” the front end of the SUV before stopping about 200 feet east of the crash scene.
The road has two lanes in either direction, as well as a center turn lane. The speed limit is 40 mph.
Police said the road was closed after the crash for investigation and cleanup. It was reopened at about 6 a.m.
