Train service to and from Long Beach was briefly suspended Wednesday night after an intoxicated man fell onto the tracks, officials said.

The incident occurred at about 10:50 p.m. between the Long Beach station and the Long Island Rail Road bridge spanning Reynolds Channel between Long Beach and Island Park, Long Beach Fire Commissioner Scott Kemins said.

Kemins said the man, who was not identified, "somehow fell onto the tracks" about 50 feet north of the platform area at Long Beach.

"He was on the tracks, unconscious," MTA spokeswoman Margie Anders told Newsday.

Power to the electrified third rail had to be cut for 20 minutes so rescuers could get down onto the tracks to remove the man, she said.

Kemins said the man was taken to South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside for treatment of unspecified injuries. No charges were filed.

The railroad said two trains were affected: The 9:53 p.m. train from Penn Station to Long Beach was delayed 26 minutes, and the 10:51 p.m. train from Long Beach also was delayed.
