Police are searching for two men who they said robbed a 22-year-old man at gunpoint on a street in Freeport on Wednesday evening.

The robbery occurred near the intersection of West Milton and North Main streets at about 6 p.m., Nassau County police said. Police said the victim, whose identity was not released, was struck in the mouth with the handgun -- causing a laceration to his lip.

Police said two men approached the victim on the street, asking if he could call them a cab. When the victim took out his cellphone, police said one of the robbers pulled a silver handgun -- and pointed it at the victim, while the second robber grabbed the man.

The two stole cash, keys, the victim's driver's license, credit cards and his cellphone, police said. The two robbers were then seen fleeing on foot north on West Milton Street.

Police are asking anyone with information about the robbery to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
