A man walking along Hempstead Turnpike in Elmont was robbed at knifepoint Thursday, police said.

The incident took place at 7:50 p.m. near Clement Avenue, Nassau County police said.

Police said the victim, 32, was walking on Hempstead Turnpike when he was approached from behind by a man who displayed a knife and demanded money. The victim handed over a book bag containing paperwork, his cell phone and cash, according to police.

The assailant then fled east toward Franklin Square.

Police ask anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain anonymous, police said.
