A man who had just withdrawn money from an ATM at the Mineola train station was attacked and robbed Wednesday, Nassau police said.

After withdrawing money about 5 p.m., the victim was approached by a man who asked for, and was given $10, police said. But that was apparently not enough, police said, and when the 30-year-old victim refused to give more, he was knocked to the ground.

The victim then handed over $40 more, and the attacker left the area in an unknown direction, police said.

The robber was described at a man in his mid- to late 20s, about 5 feet, 10 inches tall, with his hair in braids or corn rows, wearing a black hat, black jeans and a black and gray jacket, police said.

Detectives asked that anyone with information contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS.
